Biography of
Carl A.
Bergman
A native of
Sault Ste.
Marie, in
the Upper
Peninsula of
Michigan,
Carl Bergman
spent his
childhood
raised in a
small, rural
farming
community
outside of
the city.
As a young
boy, and
throughout
his
adolescence,
he worked in
different
aspects of
farm life.
This taught
him a
respect for
family
values,
nature, and,
the
importance
of hard
work,
dedication
and
integrity.
After
graduating
from high
school in
1964, with
the Vietnam
conflict
escalating,
Mr. Bergman
decided to
volunteer to
serve his
country by
enlisted in
the United
States Army.
He obtained
a position
in the Army
Intelligence
Division
where he
served from
1964-1968.
During his
military
career, Mr.
Bergman was
awarded with
22 Air
Medals.
After
returning
from
Vietnam, Mr.
Bergman
decided to
move out
west to
Wyoming,
trying his
hand in the
oil and gas
industry.
He began
what would
become a 20
year career
in the
industry,
beginning as
a
"roughneck"
on drilling
rigs.
After
several
years in
this
capacity, he
eventually
acquired a
sales
position
within
Texsteam
Inc., a
manufacturer
of valves
for oil
field
pipelines
and
production. Four
years later,
Texsteam
Inc.,
promoted Mr.
Bergman to
the position
of Regional
Sales
Manager,
covering a
five state
territory.
Three years
later, Mr.
Bergman was
forced to
seek
alternative
employment,
as Texsteam
abruptly
closed its
Western U.S.
Division, a
direct
result of
dropping oil
prices
caused by
the 1973
OPEC oil
embargos,
reflected
across
America
through the
oil crisis
of the
1970's.
After a
short stint
working in a
manufacturing
plant, Mr.
Bergman
obtained a
sales
position
within A. W.
Chesterton,
an
international
fluid and
air sealing
manufacturing
company.
During this
period of
his life,
Mr. Bergman
was elected
Mayor of
Rolling
Hills,
Wyoming, a
position he
held for six
years.
During his
tenure as
Mayor,
Rolling
Hills saw
dramatic
improvements
in the
cities
infrastructure
including
new roads, a
new city
park, and a
new city
municipal
building.
The small
town of
Rolling
Hills, under
Mr.
Bergman's
tenure, was
one of a
handful of
cities
across the
entire
United
States that
was
completely
debt free.
His
achievements
as Mayor did
not go
unnoticed,
as he was
approached
to entertain
a bid for
the Wyoming
State
Legislature.
While
considering
this offer,
his
childhood
sweetheart,
and wife of
over 20
years, who
was adopted
at birth,
was able to
both
discover and
reconnect
with her
biological
family.
This
revelation
compelled
Mr. Bergman
to relocate
his family
back to
Michigan,
settling in
Jackson, in
order to
reconnect
with her
family.
At this
time, Mr.
Bergman was
able
to transfer to
an A. W.
Chesterton
distributorship
in Detroit.
After three
years in
this
capacity,
the
distributorship
closed their
doors, once
again,
leaving Mr.
Bergman, for
the second
time in his
career,
abandoned by
corporate
interest.
Fortunately,
through his
industry
contacts and
reputation
within the
industry,
Mr. Bergman
was able to
obtain a
sales
position
within
Anchor
Packing
Company, a
division of
Garlock
Corporation,
a producer
of fluid and
air sealing
products.
Mr. Bergman
stayed with
the company
until 1993
when, they
too, closed
their
doors.
"I was sick
and tired of
businesses
closing
around my
ears, every
time I got
established.
So I became
the boss".
Mr. Bergman
was quoted
as saying.
